Wear Valley Level 3 Meet 2011
A warm welcome was given by the Wear Valley Amateur Swimming Club when they held their 2011 Level 3 meet. The competition took place at the Wood House Close Leisure Centre Complex in Bishop Auckland on Saturday the 14th and Sunday 15th of May.
Hartlepool Assistant Head Coach - took 13 swimmers to compete at the level 3 meet. Alison watched her talented young Athletes pick up 8 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 Bronze medals. She also witnessed the swimmers make between them over 50 new Personal Best times jointly knocking an incredible 300 seconds from them. Alison said “I’ve worked the squad hard in training the past few weeks and all that hard work and commitment from the young swimmers has paid off. I’m very proud of them”
In the girls 9yrs age group Tilly Skidmore had three top 15 position’s in the 100m Individual Medley making a new Personal Best time (PB), the 50m Backstroke with a PB, and the 50m Freestyle with a PB. Tilly made two top 10 positions in the 200m Backstroke and the 100m Breaststroke with a new PB. Sophie Walsh had two top 10 finishes in the 50m Freestyle and the 50m Backstroke making PB’s in both events. Sophie made a new PB in the 100m Individual Medley however her joy was short lived when she told she was disqualified for a turn fault.
Katie Laybourn just missed a top 5 position in her 100m Backstroke event although she did make a new PB. Five top 5 positions where made in the 100m Butterfly, the 200m Freestyle with a PB, the 100m Individual Medley with a PB, the 50m Butterfly with a PB, and the 200m Individual Medley where she knocked off a huge 26 seconds from her old PB. Katie’s best results where a 3rd place Bronze medal in the 100m Freestyle, a 2nd place Silver medal in the 50m Backstroke and a 1st place Gold medal in the 50m Freestyle event making PB’s in all three events. In the boys 9yrs age group Matthew Scott had a top 10 finish in the 100m Breaststroke making a new PB. He made two top 5 positions in the 50m and the 200m Freestyle events making new PB’s in both races. He touched out in 3rd place in both the 100 Individual Medley and the 200m Backstroke events picking up two Bronze medals and more importantly made two new PB’s. Matthew’s high spot came when he picked up a Gold medal in the 50m Backstroke event with a new PB.
In the girls 10yrs age group Aimee Littler had three top 20 finishes in the 100m Freestyle, the 200m Individual Medley and the 200m Breaststroke making new PB’s in all three races. Aimee had a top 15 finish in the 50m Breaststroke also making a new PB. Niamh McMorris had two top 15 finishes in the 100m and the 200m Breaststroke events making PB’s in both. Niamh made a top 10 finish in the 50m Breaststroke also making a new Personal Best time. In the 10yrs Boys Age Group Callum Brackstone made four top 10 positions in the 50m and the 200m Freestyle events, the 100m Individual Medley and the 200m Backstroke making PB’s in all four events. Callum managed a top 5 finish in the 100m Breaststroke along with a new PB.
In the Girls 11yrs Age Group Emily Rafferty had a top 15 finish in the 200m Freestyle event making a new PB. A top 10 position was made in the 50m Freestyle along with a PB. She went on to a top 5 position in the 100m Individual Medley with a new PB. Emily took a Bronze Medal when she touched out in 3rd place in the 100m Breaststroke also making a new PB. Beth Turner made a top 5 placing in the 200m
Freestyle with a new PB. Beth went on to pick up three medals in her other three races. A Silver medal was achieved in the 100m Freestyle event with a PB, and two Gold medals where accomplished in the 100m Individual Medley and the 100m Backstroke events making personal best times in both. In the Boys 11yrs Age Group Arran Boagey had two top 15 finishes in the 200m Individual Medley and the 50m Butterfly. He made four top 10 finishes in the 100m and the 200m Freestyle events, the 100m Individual Medley and the 50m Breaststroke making a PB in the latter event. A top 5 position was made in the 200m Butterfly with a new PB. Arran picked up a 2nd place Silver medal in the 50m Freestyle event along with a new PB. Timmy Berry had a superb weekend picking up seven medals from all seven of his races. A Bronze medal was made in the 100m Backstroke with a new PB. Three Silver medals where achieved in the 100m Freestyle, the 200 Individual Medley with PB and the 200m Breaststroke also making a new PB. The Timster’s best results of the weekend came when he picked up three Gold Medals making three personal best times in the 50m Breaststroke, the 50m Butterfly and the 200m Butterfly.
In the 13yr boys age group Sam McMorris had been entered into the 100m Butterfly where he powered his way into 1st place picking up a well-deserved Gold Medal and made a new PB for his effort.
In the 14yr girls age group Lucy Walsh made four top 10 finishes in the 50m and the 200m Freestyle events, the 50m Backstroke event and the 100m Individual Medley events. Lucy managed a top 5 spot in the 200m Backstroke event.
