Radford SC Easter Open Meet 2011

Radford Swimming Club held their 29th annual long course Easter Open Meet at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in the City of Sheffield on Sunday the 24th and Monday the 25th of April.

Head Coach Ian Bullock took ten members of the Hartlepool swimming club to attend the competition.  The team had a successful two days at the open meet, which saw them come away with 30 medals, consisting of 11 Bronze, 12 Silver and 7 Gold along with almost 40 Personal Best times.

In the Boys 10yrs age group, Euan Devonshire finished just outside the top 10 in the 200m Individual Medley making a new Personal Best time.  Two top 10 positions where made in the 100m Freestyle and the 50m Freestyle making a new PB in the latter.  Euan picked up a third place Bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke.  In the Girls 10yrs age group Niamh McMorris finished in a top 15 position and made a new PB in the 50m Freestyle event.

In the Boys 11yrs age group Timmy Berry come 4th in the 100m Backstroke and 4th in the 200m Breast Stroke were he took 6 seconds off his old PB.  The Timster went on to win seven medals taking off over 70 seconds from his old PB’s making seven new ones. Two Bronze medals where picked up in the 100m and the 200m Freestyle events, Four Silver medals were made in the 50m Butterfly, the 200m and the 400m Individual Medley and the 400m Freestyle.  Timmy’s highlight came with a Gold Medal achieved in the 200m Butterfly event.  In the Girls 11yrs age group Beth Turner made two top 10 positions in the 100m Backstroke and the 100m Freestyle  making a new PB in the Freestyle event,  four top 5 finishes were made in the 50m Butterfly, the 200m Freestyle and PB, the 200m Individual Medley and PB,  and the 400m Freestyle and PB.  Beth finished her weekend off with two third place Bronze medals in the 100m Breast Stroke and the 50m Backstroke making a new PB in the latter.

In the Boys 13yrs age group Sam McMorris made two top ten positions in the 200m backstroke and the 200m Individual Medley and PB,  he went on to make two top 5 positions in the 50m Freestyle and the 50m Freestyle making PB’s in both races.  Sam picked up a Bronze medal in the 200m Butterfly knocking 8 seconds of his old PB.  Callan Torka had a top 10 position in the 200m Freestyle, he went on to make three top 5 positions in the 200m Individual Medley, the 100m Freestyle and PB, and the 50m Backstroke and PB.  Callan picked up a 3rd placed Bronze medal and made a new PB in the 100m Butterfly.  Three Silver medals and three new PB’s were made in the 50 Breast Stroke, the 50m Freestyle and the 200m Butterfly events.  Callan’s best came when he picked up a Gold Medal in the 50m Butterfly along with a well-deserved PB.  In the Girls 13yrs age group Abbie Devonshire made a top 20 position in the 200m Freestyle and took 10 seconds of her old PB.  She made three top 15 positions in the 200m Individual Medley, the 100m Backstroke and the 100m Freestyle and three top 10 positions in the 200m Backstroke, the 50m Freestyle and PB, and the 50m Butterfly with a new PB.  Abbie picked up a 3rd place Bronze medal in the 50m Backstroke and made a new PB.

In the Girls 14yrs age group Laura Maddison just missed a top 10 position in the 100m Backstroke, she went on to make four top 10 positions in the 50m, 100m and the 200m Freestyle events making new PB’s in all three events.  Laura made a top 5 position and PB in the 50m Backstroke.

In the 15yrs Girls age group Heather Richardson had been entered into seven events were she achieved seven medals.  A Bronze medal was taken in the 400m Individual Medley.  Two Silver medals were made in the 200m Individual Medley and the 200m Backstroke.  Heather’s pinnacle came when she powered her way into four 1st place finishes picking up an amazing four Gold Medals in the 100m, 200m and the 400m Freestyle events, and the 100m Backstroke.

In the 16yrs age group Joseph Laybourn began his competition with a 6th place in the 100m Butterfly.  He went on to take two Bronze Medals in the 100m Freestyle and the 200m Backstroke.  Two Silver Medals in the 400m Freestyle and the 100m Backstroke.  In the 50m Freestyle event Joseph made a new PB and finished in 3rd place taking him to the final of this event were he made a 2nd place Silver medal and beating his previously set PB.  Joseph muscled his way to make two Gold medal positions in the 50m Backstroke and the 200m Individual Medley.

In the Top Boy and Top Girl Awards Timmy Berry came 4th in the Boys 11yrs age group. Beth Turner came 6th in the Girls 11yrs age group.  Abbie Devonshire came 11th in the Girls 13yrs age group.  Callan Torka came 6th in the Boys 13yrs age group.  Laura Maddison came 5th in the Girls 14yrs age group.  Heather Richardson came 1st in the Girls 15yrs age group and Joseph Laybourn came 1st in the Boys 16yrs age group.
