Pirates of the Mill House
Aaaarghrtlepool SC held its very first Pirates Fun ‘D’ Racing Night on Thursday 14th July. The competition was an Idea put together by Admiral Ian (Greybeard) Bullock and his 1st lieutenant Andrea Bullock. A superb turnout from the swimmers their friends and family made this a marvellously entertaining, sociable and pleasurable night.
The Red Pirates where in the control of Captain Joseph (Glastonbury) Laybourn while the Black Pirates where in the control of Captain Ryan (The Assassin) Hepple.
Both teams entered the pool at 5:00 o’clock warming up their muscles and honing their Pirate skills before the hostilities where to start at exactly 5:30. The winner of the competition would be decided over the next hour (and 1minute).
Admiral Ian (Greybeard) Bullock stood on the bridge of the pool preparing himself to start, witness and judge the commencing Battle of the Pirates.
Over the next hour (and 1minute) both teams fought valiantly. The Red Pirates went ahead then the Black Pirates went ahead. It was nip and tuck throughout the Hour (and 1 minute).
The two mighty enemies excelled all expectations in the Bombing event. Nonetheless only one team can win and that team was the Red Pirates who won the event more for the sheer noise they made rather than the technique they showed.
At the last event Admiral Ian (Greybeard) Bullock told the two Pirate teams that the Red Pirates where just in front of the Black Pirates. However Captain Ryan (the Assassin) Hepple had one card still left up his sleeve and that card was his teams Joker. This meant the whole competition would be won by the team which finished first in the cannon relay.
Family and friends screamed encouragement to the Pirate team who their own child or friend was in. This was to be the closest fought battle of them all and it took the last swimmer for the Black Pirates who just happened to be the their leader, Captain Ryan (the Assassin) Hepple to touch the wall first winning the last event and in doings so winning the overall competition. The last swimmer for the Red Pirates touched the wall just seconds behind Captain Ryan and climbed out of the pool at 29 minutes to 7:00 to be consoled by the rest of the Red Pirates team.
Congratulations to the Black Pirates who are the winners of the first Aaaarghrtlepool SC’s Pirates Fun ‘D’ Racing Competition and commiserations to the Red Pirates who battled valiantly in this closely fought competition.
The evening ended at the McDonalds Inn where the Parents rewarded their own Pirates with a well-deserved hearty meal and refreshing drink .
To everyone who helped put this event together, to everyone who helped on the poolside, to everyone who worked on the balcony, to all the friends and family who supported the Pirates but most of all a bigger well done to all the swimmers who took part in the first of many Pirates Fun ‘D’ Racing Night.
Ps with your help the Hartlepool Swimming club raised £225, so a big thank you goes to each and everyone of you .
Regards
Marley Jackson
