City of Sunderland Long Course May Open Meet 2011

The Hartlepool Swimming Club sent six of their ‘A’ Squad team to compete in the City of Sunderland’s May Open On Saturday the 21st of May and Sunday the 22nd of May.  The annual competition is an Open Long Course Championship and was held at Sunderland’s Aquatic Centre. 

Head Coach Ian Bullock complimented his squad by saying “the continuous personal best times the swimmers are making are clear indications to me they are all working very hard in training and they are all heading in the right direction in their own personal improvements. Well done to them all.

Nicholl Fitzgerald Hartlepool’s youngest swimmer represented them in the 12yr old girls age group.  Nicholl just missed a top 20 position in the 50m Freestyle event but did make a new Personal Best time (PB).  Two top 20’s where made in the 100m and the 200m Freestyle event making a new PB in the 100m distance.  She made two top 15 finishes in the 100m Butterfly, and the 100m Breaststroke events.  Nicholl went on to make three top 10 positions in the 50m Butterfly, the 50m Backstroke with a new PB, and the 200m breaststroke also making a new PB.  She managed a top 5 place in the 50m Breaststroke. 

In the 13yr old boys age group Sam McMorris made four top 15 positions in the 100m and the 200m Backstroke events, and the 50m and the 100m Freestyle events making PB’s in all four races.  He made two top 10 positions in the 50m Backstroke and the 100m Butterfly events also making PB’s in both races.  Sam managed two top 5 finishes in the 50m and the 200m Butterfly events again making personal Best times in both races.  Callan Torka began the first of his eight races by just missing out on a top 10 place in the 200m Freestyle.  He did go on to make four top 10 positions in the 200m Individual Medley, the 50m Breaststroke, the 100m Freestyle, and the 50m Freestyle making a new PB in the latter event.  Callan capped his weekend off by picking up a Silver medal in the 200m Butterfly and two Gold Medals in the 50m and the 100m Butterfly events accomplishing personal Best times in all three races.

In the girls 14yr old age group Laura Maddison swam in the 100m Freestyle managing a top 25 position.  She accomplished a top 20 finish in the 200m Freestyle.  Laura went on to make two top 15 finishes in the 50m Backstroke and the 50m Freestyle making a personal best time in the latter event.  In the boys 14yr old age group Oliver Stoker made a top 20 finish in the 100m Freestyle along with a new PB.  He went on to make a top 15 position in the 200m Freestyle.  Oliver made it into the top 10 four times, in the 50m and the 400m Freestyle, the 50m Backstroke and the 200m Individual Medley achieving new PB’s in all four races.

 

17yr old Joseph Laybourn Hartlepool’s oldest swimmer represented them in the boys 16yr and over age group.  Two top 10 positions where made in the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Freestyle making personal Best times in both races.  Joseph went on to finish five times in the top 5 in the 50m and 100m Backstroke events, the 200m backstroke, and the 50m and 200m Freestyle events making PB’s in all five events.  In the 17yr old age group Joseph finished in 1st place in 50m, 100m and the 200m Freestyle, the 50m and the 200m Backstroke events and made 2nd place in the 100m Backstroke and the 200m Individual Medley events.
