Wear Valley Guy FawkesLevel 3 Meet 2011

 

The Hartlepool Swimming club sent 17 of their top young swimmers to Bishop Auckland in November where they competed in the Guy Fawkes Level 3 meet.The swimmers had entered into 90 events over the two day competition. 

Head coach Ian Bullock said “the team performed amazingly.  They picked up an incredible 67 medals made up of 35 Gold, 23 Silver and 9 Bronze Medals.  More importantly 63 Personal Best (PB) times where made, knocking off a combined total of 271 seconds from them.  Two of our swimmers also broke through the one minute barrier for the 100m freestyle” Ian went on to say “They have all worked extremely hard in training and all that hard work has paid off. I’d like to saya big well done to all of them.”

In the girls 10yrs age group Katie Laybourn entered seven events andmade a perfect score. She picked up a fantastic seven Gold Medals and also made seven new PB times.  Her winning performance’s where the 50m and the 200m backstroke, the 50m and the 200m Freestyle, the 100m and the 200m Individual Medley and the 50m Butterfly.  Jessica Williams made four Silver medals which were in the 200m Backstroke, the 50m and the 200m Freestyle making PB’s in both events and the 50m Backstroke also making a PB.  She went on to pick up a first placed Gold medal along with a new PB in the 50m Breaststroke.Tilly Skidmore had four top 5 positions in the 50m Backstroke, the 100m Individual Medley, the 50m and the 200m Freestyle making personal best (PB) times in all events.  She went on to pick up a Silver medal in the 50m Breaststroke along with another new PB.

In the girls 11yrs age group Beth Turner touched the wall in 3rd place to pick up a Bronze medal in the 200m Individual Medley along with a new PB time.  She picked up four Silver medals in the 400m Freestyle, the 100m Backstroke, the 100m Individual Medley with a new PB time and the 200m Freestyle also making a new PB time.  Beth’s highlight came when she picked up two Gold medals in the 100m Breaststroke and the 100m Freestyle events making PB times in both.  Emily Rafferty made two top 5 finishes in the 200m Freestyle and the 200m Individual Medley making PB times in both events.  She picked up two Bronze medals in the 100m Backstroke and the 100m Individual Medley making PB’s in both events.  Emily went on to pick up three Silver medals in the 100m and the 200m Breaststroke events, and the 100m Freestyle making PB times in all three events.  Niamh McMorris had a top 15 finish in the 200m Individual Medley making a PB time.  Niamh went on to make four top 10 finishes in the 100m Freestyle, the 100m Individual Medley and the 200m Breaststroke making PB’s in all three events.  Casey Bushnallfinished with two top 15 positions in the 100m Breaststroke and the 100m Freestyle.  In the boys 11yrs age group Callum Brass took 2nd place and picked up a Silver medal in the 100m Backstroke.  He went on to power his way to 1st place in his other four events which were the 100m Butterfly, the 400m the 200m and the 100m Individual Medley events making a new PB in the latter.

In the girls 13yrs age group Courtney Syres managed a top 10 position along with a new PB time in her 100m Freestyle event. 

In the Girls 14yrs age group Lucy Walsh finished in a top 5 position in her 400m Freestyle and made a new PB time.  She picked up a Bronze medal in the 50m Backstroke along with another PB time.  Lucy picked up two Silver medals in her remaining two races which were the 200m Backstroke and the 100m Breaststroke.  In the boys 14yrs age group Callan Torka took away two Silver medals for the 200m Freestyle and the 200m Butterfly making PB’s in both events.  He went on to pick up four Gold Medals for his 200m Individual Medley, the 100m Butterfly with a new PB time, the 100m Individual Medley with a new PB time and the 100m Freestyle were he passed the milestone of a sub one minute time.  Sam McMorris finished in top 5 positions twice in his 100m and the 200m Freestyle events making a new PB time in the latter.  He picked up two Bronze medals in the 100m and the 200m Individual Medley making PB’s in both events.  Sam went on to pick up two Silver medals along with two new PB times in the 100m and the 200m Butterfly events.

In the girls 15yrs age group Laura Maddison touched out in 3rd place to pick up a Bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle event.  Laura then touched the wall in 2nd place and picked up a Silver medal for her 50m Freestyle event.  In the boys 15yrs age group Oliver Stoker finished in the top 5 in the 50m and 100 Backstroke making new PB’s in both events.  He picked up two Bronze medals in the 50m Freestyle event with a new PB time and the 100m Freestyle event were he also passed the landmark of a sub one minute time. A brace of Silver medals was achieved in the 100m and the 200m Individual Medley along with new PB times in each event.  Oliver went on to pick up a pair of Gold medals in the 200m and the 400m Freestyle events once again making PB times in each of the events.

In the girls 16yr age group Heather Richardson had been entered in 6 events and made 6 well deserved Gold Medals for her efforts.  Her chosen events were the
200m Breaststroke, the 200m Freestyle, the 200m and the 400m Individual Medley, the 100m and the 200m Butterfly making a PB time in the latter race.

In the boys 17yrs age group Joseph Laybournproved things do happen in threes when he became the third member of the Hartlepool team to pick up Gold medals from all the events he had entered in. His six medals were won in: the 50m Backstroke, the 50m Butterfly with a new PB time, the 50m and the 100m Breaststroke with PB times in both, the 100m Freestyle with a new PB time and the 100m Individual Medley once again making a new PB time. Ryan Hepple took away three Silver medals from the competition for his 100m Breaststroke, the 100m Freestyle and the 100m Butterfly also with a new PB time.  Ryan went on to hit the wall in 1st place four times to pick up four Gold Medals in the 100m Backstroke, the 200m Individual Medley, the 50m Freestyle with a new PB time and the 200m Breaststroke also making a new PB time.
